What a set of Roman entertainment includes

The legion is what stops the street. Centurions and legionaries with lorica, shield and gladius, forming and breaking formation along the parade, with the step marked and the orders given in Latin. Behind them come the vestals, the drum and horn players, the dancers and the slaves with the amphorae and the standards.

A walkabout set runs thirty minutes and a static one twenty-five. In the static version we stage the formation in the square, with choreographed gladiatorial combat and a weapons display that works as well with children as with adults.

At night the register changes: the Roman fire show is performed with torches, fans and lit staffs, with real fire and trained performers. It is the act that closes the day and the one people film on their phones.

For Roman fairs, historical reconstructions and archaeological sites

A Roman fair draws a different crowd from a medieval one, and it is booked in towns with something to show: a site, a Roman road, a bridge or an established historical reconstruction. If your town has archaeological remains, Roman entertainment makes far more of them than a generic parade.

A full day is five sets spread across the day: an opening parade, two blocks with the children, a lit parade at dusk and fire to close. A half day is three sets and fits an afternoon of patron saint festivities.

No stage and no set-up required. We need a closed room nearby for costume changes, a water point and a clear area for the fire; the rest we bring, sound and microphones included. We fit ourselves to the route and the running order you already have in the programme.

Where we have staged Roman entertainment

At the Roman fair in Baños de Montemayor, Cáceres, with the full legion, the parade through the old quarter and the fire show at nightfall. In Cazalegas, Toledo, with silks by day and torches by night. And at patron saint festivals across the Madrid region, Castilla-La Mancha and Castilla y León where the Roman theme alternates each season with the medieval one.

We work with the culture or festivals department directly, or with the promoter running the fair. We travel from Madrid and the journey is inside the quote: there is no per-kilometre price, so a town in Cáceres pays the same as one in the hills outside Madrid.

What you need in order to book

Tell us the date, the town, the running order and how many people you expect, and we send back a fixed quote as a PDF with several options depending on the number of performers. Everything is inside it but VAT: period costume and props, reconstruction weaponry, our own sound, fire materials, insurance, social security registration, travel, accommodation and per diems.

Every performer is registered with social security by the company and we carry public liability insurance and accident insurance. We give you a description of each show, its running time, the number of sets per day and photographic documentation, which is what the tender usually asks for.
