Medieval programme: what we stage at a medieval fair

This is the full programme we work a weekend medieval fair or market with. It is not a single act: it is an atmosphere built hour by hour, from the Friday afternoon opening to the fire show that closes on Saturday night.
Everything that follows is filmed at real fairs for councils and promoters. The team adjusts to the budget you are working with: it can be staged with three performers or with fifteen.
You can also see the page for this theme, with videos and photographs of real performances.
The shows in the programme

Stilt-walking kings
Three-metre figures in leather masks inspired by the Commedia dell'arte. They advance through the crowd granting improvised audiences and proclaiming extraordinary decrees. It is the act that generates the most photographs of the whole fair.

Jesters and minstrels
The counterpoint: mischief, impossible juggling and tireless dancing. They work at street level, in among the stalls, and they are the ones who break the ice with the crowd still watching from a distance.

Enchanted forest
Goblins, fauns and elves that appear among the crowd to the beat of drums. It is the most poetic part of the programme and the one that works best with families and small children.

The night
Warriors with sabres, steel juggling and tormented monks begging for your soul. It raises the adrenaline and sets the mood for the fire.

Fire show
The close. Real fire — not cold fire — in the square as night falls, with live narration. It is what people remember the next day and what gets shared on social media.

Children's entertainment
Storytelling with elves, balloon modelling, a bubble workshop and «The Challenge of the Kingdom», a treasure hunt across the whole market looking for hidden clues. It keeps the children busy while their parents shop.
